Bitcoin has surpassed the level of 100 thousand dollars. What to expect from the cryptocurrency next: the opinion of analysts
Last week, the Bitcoin rate for the first time exceeded the $100,000 mark and set another historical maximum. However, this is not the limit for the first cryptocurrency. Still, many analysts are already making forecasts for next year, in which the value of the asset will be significantly higher. Accordingly, investors should pay attention to such probabilities and prepare for various scenarios on the market.
Analysts agree that the key reason for the current growth of the coin market was Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election. One of his most attractive election promises is the creation of a national crypto reserve in bitcoins. The plan at least assumes a refusal to sell coins that were previously confiscated by the US authorities from various criminals.
At the same time, the maximum program means buying a million bitcoins, which will be stored without moving for at least twenty years.
This idea was supported the day before by former head of MicroStrategy Michael Saylor. According to him, BTC is currently the most desirable asset for long-term investors, and therefore the US government should get rid of all the gold in its reserves. And the proceeds should be redirected to buying bitcoins.
However, not everyone approves of this idea. Earlier, former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers spoke out against it. Because of this, the expert received immediate criticism from fans of digital assets, who doubted his competence.
What will happen to the Bitcoin rate in 2025
In a recent note to clients, Standard Chartered’s head of research Jeff Kendrick said Bitcoin’s record rally yesterday was fueled largely by institutional capital flows into cryptocurrency ETFs, most notably BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust.
An additional effect was provided by the massive acquisition of BTC by MicroStrategy. Here is an expert’s response on this matter.
We expect institutional capital inflows to remain at or above 2024 levels in 2025. Against this backdrop, we believe our end-2025 Bitcoin price target of around $200,000 is within reach.
Let us recall that earlier a similar target was voiced by Bernstein analysts. Moreover, taking into account the growing attention of the industry to BTC, they called the target of 200 thousand conservative, that is, quite modest.
MicroStrategy previously unveiled a plan to buy $42 billion worth of bitcoin over the next three years using equity and debt. Kendrick believes the company is “way ahead of schedule.” Since early November, MicroStrategy’s balance sheet has increased by 150,000 BTC, or more than $15 billion.
In addition, today the giant announced the acquisition of 21,550 BTC for $2.1 billion, bringing the total amount of cryptocurrency at MicroStrategy’s disposal to 423,650 bitcoins, in which a total of $25.6 billion was invested.
At the same time, the Standard Chartered analyst predicts that pension funds will be among the most active buyers of Bitcoin spot ETF shares in 2025. If the financials are more optimistic in this regard, Standard Chartered experts are considering further raising their Bitcoin price target by the end of 2025.
According to sources told Decrypt , Kendrick singled out Trump’s initiative to create a national crypto reserve, though he generally considers such a thing “unlikely.”
While Kendrick focuses on long-term forecasts, other experts pay more attention to short-term chart movements. For example, 21Shares cryptocurrency strategist Matt Mena said that $100,000 is a key psychological milestone for Bitcoin investors.
A confident breakout above this line “can attract a new wave of investors” who have previously remained on the sidelines and, for whatever reason, ignored the coin sphere.
However, active BTC buyers may lock in profits when the asset breaks the $100,000 barrier, according to Brent Kenwell, an investment analyst at eToro.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Bitcoin, which has risen more than 40 percent since the election, takes a short break.
Overall, the long-term Bitcoin price forecast for 2025 largely depends on institutional investor adoption and the regulatory environment. Given the current dynamics, continued integration of cryptocurrencies into the financial system could lead to a confident increase in the BTC price. The further spread of Bitcoin ETFs and the strengthening of the first cryptocurrency’s role as a safe haven asset in the face of instability in traditional markets are expected to push its value to new highs.
Analysts agree that 2025 will be a successful year for Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market as a whole. The most obvious factors for this are the change in the leadership of the SEC after Trump came to power and the development of an adequate framework for regulating coins. Perhaps, the successful implementation of these two points will be enough to significantly affect the value of digital assets.
